Because I couldn’t have been any other

Because I couldn’t have been any other
given the soil I was in,
the sun light that I received,
the minerals that I got ,
oh and the pests ,
and the genes in the seed.

How could I’ve been anything else?
I am what I could’ve been.

The sounds that I heard,
the alphabets that I learnt,
the words they formed,
the visuals that I saw,
the smells that I smelt,
the things that I touched,
and the meanings they were given.

Everything occuring around me
only the way it could’ve been.

Thus, I developed,
absorbing everything bit by bit
without any discrimination,
imbibing what was taught
from those who already were
something, as they were,
as they could’ve been.

Alas, I was formed
the way I am now, as I could’ve been.

The new things that I learn
and old things that I forgo
will build the course of my life,
and decide what I become
out of what I am now,
from whatever I already am.
